Our services

The right approach starts with the condition of the property.

A small failure may need a repair. A compromised frame may deserve full renewal. A larger project may need new doors, specialist glass or one exterior programme.

Restore tired joinery properly

Restoration

A more comprehensive approach to original windows, combining joinery repairs, thorough preparation, servicing and redecoration to restore both appearance and performance.

  • Weathered joinery requiring attention throughout
  • Multiple areas of deterioration rather than a single defect
  • Original windows that remain sound and worth preserving

Repair and replacement, carefully considered

Preserve what is sound. Remake what is beyond repair.

Localised decay, failed sash cords and deteriorated putty can often be repaired without replacing otherwise sound joinery. More extensive frame decay, distortion or unsuitable previous replacements may call for complete renewal.

Our survey assesses each opening individually, establishing what should be retained and where replacement is the better approach.

Repair

Address localised defects while retaining sound original joinery.

Restore

Bring original windows back into good condition through timber repair, preparation, servicing and redecoration.

Retrofit

Improve performance with new double-glazed hardwood sashes fitted into a sound existing box frame.

Renew

Replace with bespoke hardwood frames and sashes where the existing joinery is beyond practical repair.

“Great quality work, the windows they restored are beautiful.”

Ed BentleyGoogle reviewSash restoration and replacement

“I highly recommend Joe and Sam. Their expert exterior paint work has transformed the front of my house masonry, railings and gate. Every time I walk down the front path, I notice it. They also expertly fixed some exterior flashing on the top floor at the rear of the property which was loose. Their work was neat and tidy and they were a pleasure to have around. I highly recommend this company.”

First-hand guides

Make an informed decision before work begins

Our guides explain what to consider when repairing, restoring or replacing traditional joinery, with practical advice on windows, doors, glazing, shutters and wider façade works.

7 minute guide

Should you repair or replace sash windows?

The right approach depends on the condition of the existing joinery. A sash window may need a localised repair, new double-glazed sashes within the original box frame, or complete replacement. The starting point is always the condition of the window itself.

Retrofitting double glazing into existing sash-window boxes

If the original box frame remains sound, complete window replacement may not be necessary. New made-to-measure hardwood sashes with slim double glazing can often be fitted into the existing frame, improving performance while retaining more of the original joinery.

5 minute guide

Why sash windows stick, jam or stay painted shut

A sash window that will not open properly is not necessarily badly damaged. Paint build-up, swollen timber, failed sash cords, balance problems or movement within the frame can all cause a window to stick—and each requires a slightly different approach.

Common questions

Straight answers before you book a survey.

Still unsure? Call 07935 863 847.

Should I repair or replace my sash windows?

If the box frame and most of the sash timber are sound, repair or restoration is often the better starting point. Renewal makes more sense when decay is extensive, movement is serious or the existing design is unsuitable.

Can you improve draughts without changing the windows?

Yes. Discreet brush seals can be machined into new beadings and meeting rails, then the sashes are balanced and serviced.

Can you add double glazing to existing sash windows?

Sometimes. A sound box frame can often receive new made-to-measure double-glazed hardwood sashes. The survey checks condition, profiles, glass specification and planning context.

Do you repair timber doors?

Yes. Stile repairs, refurbishes and replaces timber front, French and glazed doors, including draught, alignment and local rot issues.
